Ulead's DVD Workshop 2 is as excellent as the previous release, especially for design flexibility and enhancements in the areas of capture, editing, menu creation, playlists, and rendering and burning. Testers created a sales training DVD by capturing video directly into MPEG-2 format to accelerate production, which was a smooth process on a 3.2GHz HP xw4100. While editing, the clip was divided into general categories with the Cut Title button. For menu creation, they created a menu that links to a Segment menu that holds all sections of the original tape. They used the playlist function to set up beginning, advanced, and highlights presentations, in addition to one button that is pressed for viewing the whole video. A playlist is created by merely dragging the assets into the playlist box one at a time. The main menu is linked to the segment menu by drag-and-drop features that move the segment menu icon from a bottom filmstrip to the Segment Menu text. Drag-and-drop was also used to link individual sections into the Segment menu. When compared with rival products, testers found DVD Workshop 2 to be much more accessible than Adobe Encore, and that it also offers a larger number of design options. DVD Workshop 2 also competes well if Photoshop and After Effects are considered, especially if development efficiency is a priority.
