Avid Technology and NXN Software's Studio, Avid's Unity Media, and Canto's Cumulus are among digital asset management (DAM) products compared for features that assist content creators in managing increasing numbers of graphics files. With the acquisition of NXN, which makes the Alienbrain line of production management tools, Avid obtained high-end digital content creation tools. NXN has no direct competitors for games and postproduction systems and has set the bar for production asset management. NXN gained more access to the postproduction arena, and will benefit from Avid's strategy for making, managing, and making media. Artesia was an early entry in the DAM-for-media arena, with its Teams software, which manages the back-end process for file processing, archiving, and asset creation. Other DAM vendors in the DCC and broadcast markets include eMotion, with business applications for management of digital assets and marketing content; Canto Cumulus, with DAM for various applications, in particular, Web publishing,; and Adam Systems Group, a developer of hardware and software DAM systems for the entertainment, geospatial, and medical markets. A spokesman for Adam Systems says the present challenges for digital content creators are development of a customized, non-disruptive workflow system that can be integrated with a DCC's facility; and addressing digital rights management (DRM).
