Interwoven's WorkSite MP 4.0, a product that emerged from collaboration with iManage, adds records management, offline synchronization, virtual folders, and simplified configuration to Interwoven's ECM (enterprise content management) products. ECM is changing to meet various corporate data integration needs, rather than remaining static as solely a communications and publishing tool. Michael Maziarka, director at InfoTrends/CAP Ventures, says the goal is to make information actionable, including progress to the next step of a business process, allowing customers to respond with information given to them, and following policies and regulations. WorkSite MP 4.0 also integrates with BEA Systems' portlets and has a Microsoft .NET SDK for easing and speeding .NET application development. More distributed organizations are now required to comply with regulations, such as process and content management over disparate technologies, time zones, and departments, says a product director at Interwoven. The records retention feature of WorkSite MP 4.0 permits browsing of an entire content hierarchy, and EMC Documentum division is growing ECM to include business process management (BPM) abilities. Vignette, Epitome Systems, and Stellent will also support the junction between ECM and compliance.
