SAP's SAP ERP Central Component 5.0 in 2004 will give SAP's Netweaver and MySAP ERP better integration in 2004. SAP's SAP Enterprise Services Architecture is helping SAP move customers to a service-oriented architecture (SOA) architecture, and SAP is also developing tools that make that possible. With SAP Enterprise Service Architecture, users will be able to quickly respond to dynamic business needs and to innovate more swiftly without changing core processes, says CEO Henning Kagermann of SAP, who spoke at the SAP Sapphire user conference. NetWeaver integration software and SAP's suite of business applications will be services-based said Kagermann, by 2007. Coming from the NetWeaver side, said Kagermann, is the important Enterprise Service Repository, and from the application side, the crucial ability is delivery of the services over all applications. The total road map for availability is three years. The next phase for NetWeaver will be in 2005, when model- driven development is enabled to make a developer productive and to make use of an SOA. A set of templates will allow developers to reuse patterns/models according to reusable business objects. A spokesperson for IT, Americas at Wrigley, uses SAP R/3 and Enterprise Protocol 5.0, which has NetWeaver components, and says SAP's new, open strategy is in line with the company's attempts to 'objectize SOA', an effort that has been ongoing for years.
