VERITAS Software's i3 Application Performance Management (APM) Suite suffers from transition issues, mainly in integration, installation, and usability. i3 was inherited by VERITAS Software through its acquisition of Precise Software. The release still has a few rough edges that need to be smoothed out before it can be fully functional. Its main problem stems from uneven integration of the i3 agents and tools. This will require heavy lifting on the part of IT managers and a lot of time spent on its steep learning curve. i3's core is its FocalPoint, a server-hosted central control point that acts as a hub for the numerous agents and services. The interaction occurs in the StartPoint Web interface, but this is also the place where many inconsistencies begin and continue on to product installation. Despite its transitional problems, i3 has a sophisticated graphical overview. While there is room for improvement, VERITAS Software will need to resolve those problems quickly in the crowded APM space.
