ClearOrbit's ClearOrbit Advanced Collaborative Replenishment (A.CR) is the result of a collaboration between ClearOrbit, an independent software vendor (ISV), and JDS Uniphase (JDSU). A.CR will extend Uniphase's Oracle enterprise suite so that six leading contract manufacturers globally can interact directly with JDSU enterprise resource planning (ERP) through Web pages and Web service application programming interfaces (APIs). A.CR will put JDSU's business processes in the plants of the leading suppliers supported. For instance, such suppliers can print totally JDSU-compliant package labels and drop-ship directly to the customer. However, JDSU is still the only point of contact for the customer. With JDSU directly connected with JDSU Oracle ERP through APIs, and open interface tables, A.CR obviates the need for additional middleware and data models for electronic connectivity. A spokesperson for ClearOrbit says one data model and one business process are needed, regardless of the number of involved partners. JDSU runs just one instance of Oracle E-Business Suite 11i, and, in doing so, has eliminated hundreds of different legacy systems. JDSU is adopting Oracle's concept of one data model, which results in a consistent and integrated transaction record throughout the entire firm, including more than 1,000 users at 14 locations globally.
