IBM is introducing a number of new WebSphere products for specific industries which will work better with new Web service standards. Its WebSphere integration server, for applications written in the Business Process Execution Language, has been updated. It is offering consulting services to support Web services. New products for consumer-products and utilities and for government markets were introduced. WebSphere Commerce 5.6 is the newest offering to assist customers in linking business processes internally and externally. IBM plans more Web service product and service introductions over the next two months. Sales of WebSphere software grew 24 percent in the first quarter, but overall revenue growth for IBM Global Services was lower than expected. IBM expects the worldwide Web services consulting market to grow from $15 billion in 2004 to $200 billion in 2008. Although consulting is a small part of Global Services revenue, it helps generate additional WebSphere sales. IBM also reorganized its sales and services organizations along 12 vertical industries.
