Title: Mac Giants Go Head to Head: VectorWorks and form.Z in a modeling...

Author: Tyler, Mary E Article Type: Product Comparison

Nemetschek NA's VectorWorks and auto.des.sys's form.z RadioZity 4.0 are two modeling programs for the Mac platform. While form.Z has powerful modeling and rendering capabilities, VectorWorks is a robust program, with mechanical engineering-specific tools and scalability. While form.Z is difficult to implement, VectorWorks installs within minutes, although it is thin on documentation. form.z has a stronger copy protection and comes with a USB dongle. The drawback is that the dongle is faulty. While both programs have multiple features, tools and palettes, the interfaces differ. form.z has an interface that is not very user-friendly, whereas VectorWorks copies Mac OS 9's interface look. form.z has a better rendering capability than VectorWorks. Both have solid tutorials and samples via their Web sites, although Nemetschek has a better Web site. Neither program performs well with 3D modeling.
