Ektron believes that XML content made available through Web services will be widely adopted in 2004. Content owners are trying to use XML and Web services to provide relevant search results that find data stranded on 'islands,' which are not normally available to Web site or intranet users. XML authoring tools are helping owners of digital islands to simply the development of XML content, which ultimately helps them connect with information consumers. XML tags Web content, which makes it more readily available to be exchanged or located. Web services further the goal of accessibility and availability. This process can eliminate the content owners' task of duplicating data. Real estate is one industry that can benefit from the combination of XML and Web services. Regional or state real estate agencies can hook up to other realtors' Web sites to open up their portfolio for buyers and sellers. Corporate intranets also can benefit, especially when there are thousands of employees spread across multiple facilities.
