Systinet's user-friendly WASP UDDI (Universal Description, Discovery, and Integration) Standard 4.6, a UDDI server for deployment of a UDDI registry, gets excellent scores for strong standards support, an able application programming interface (API), and security and management abilities. The WASP UDDI 4.6 server supports UDDI specification 1 and 2 and the version 3 subscription API. Systinet has also added extensions to the core UDDI specification to offer more functionality for management, security, inquiries, and other operations. The server can run atop various database, including Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, PostgreSQL, Sybase, Cloudscape, PointBase, and Hypersonic SQL, which is the database included with WASP UDDI 4.6. The Web interface is full-featured, and WASP UDDI provides a Java-written open source client API that can be used by developers to create applications that interact with the UDDI repository. The Web interface and the Java API for the UDDI registry permit elements to be published to the registry. As shipped, the UDDI registry is populated with sample data and a set of common taxonomies for supporting tutorials and exercises in the documentation and so that services can be classified with current industry standards. An example is provided of creation of a new business entity. Inquiry abilities adhering to UIDDI 1 and 2 are included in the WASP UDDI server in addition to a SuperInquiry interface that adds search options to the standard interface. Among topics covered are debugging applications, administration, and security.
