IBM is introducing over 20 new software tools as part of its DB2 for z/OS 8 that will allow mainframe content management software to access unstructured data on distributed networks. DB2 Content Manager will improve enterprise content workflow and provide better integration with WebSphere Business Integration software. WebSphere 5.1 for z/OS will help administrators monitor application performance and enhance workflow. Workload Management features load balancing and clustering abilities. Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition, has been added to the application server, along with IBM Tivoli, Wily Technology, and Mercury Interactive performance monitoring tools. Mainframes offer advantages over distributed networks when running certain workloads. CheckFree, which uses DB2 on a mainframe, believes mainframes will become data stores accessed by distributed networks.
