Sony Pictures Digital's Vegas+DVD, an excellent video editing package, is an inclusive professional-level video, audio, and authoring solution with power, flexibility, and stability. Included are Vegas 4.0, DVD Architect, the Sony Dolby Digital AC-3 encoder, MediaFACE 4 labeling software, and over 30 DirectX audio plug-ins. Testers found installation straightforward, and they began by customizing the interface, which includes the ability to choose which floatable, dockable windows will be displayed for easy access, and which will be hidden. Users could select features often used, including histograms and a surround panner, which could be docked to the work areas for easy access. Video editing beginners will have a learning curve, but it is not substantial because users can work in as simple or complex an environment as they desire. They can merely drag a file from the Explorer window into the Trimmer window and highlight the selection by dragging the cursor, or they can click the cursor where desired to start, hit the I key (for in), click the cursor where they want to end, hit the O key (for out), and then strike the A key to add the trimmed clip to the timeline. Excellent integration with DVD Architect allows users to top an intuitive, wizard-based interface to import markers in Vegas as DVD chapter points and AC-3 files for multi-channel 5.1 DVDs.
