Zebra Technologies, Automative Identification Systems, and Texas Instruments are just a number of vendors that are hoping to help smaller businesses integrate radio-frequency identification technology (RFID) into their business processes to gain competitive advantages. While mega-retailers such as WalMart are implementing RFID technology and mandating that their suppliers do the same, smaller companies are looking to use RFID to increase efficiencies and save money in the long run, although RFID technology is expensive on the front end. RFID's promise is to offer more efficiency as data collection expands. Efficient data collection will also translate into streamlined business processes and warehouse operations. Zebra Technolgies has RFID-compatible printers and encoders, as well as its ZebraNet, a networked utilities and control system. Automatic Identification Systems offers a KartKeeper application, which provides companies with a layout of trucks and color-codes orders into a series of grids. This gives warehouse personnel visual data regarding customer orders. Texas Instruments makes RFID tags.
