Title: UML 2.0: Exploiting Abstraction and Automation

The recently revised Unified Modeling Language (UML) 2.0, standardized by the Object Management Group (OMG), is expected to further evolve software development technologies. UML 2.0 approaches software development with a focus on models, not code, while maintaining the relationship between code and model. As software becomes more and more complex, developers should use abstraction to simplify the complexities. Automation in UML 2.0 includes the automatic verification of software specifications. OMG focused on abstraction and automation when it convened on the revision of UML. UML 2.0 has more features, which some fear has increased its complexity instead of simplified the standard. UML 2.0 has been designed as a set of independent sublanguages. UML users can therefore use what they need. For all its detractions, some are looking to UML 2.0 to open up programming languages so that developers can use more powerful model-driven tools to initiate large development projects.
