Title: W3C Releases 'Semantic Web' Specs: RDF revision, ontology language...

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) released two specifications that will be the foundation of its Semantic Web system. The Semantic Web, which was founded by Tim Berners-Lee, creator of the World Wide Web, will let users link documents and provide data context. It offers users a new way to categorize information and classify relationships between data objects. Currently, document links on the Web occur without context. The Semantic Web would first provide more drilled-down searches based on agent software synchronizing schedules and appropriate appointment locations. The Semantic Web comprises the Resource Description Framework (RDF), Resource Description Framework Schema, and the Web Ontology Language (OWL). The W3C recommended revising the RDF and the OWL, which then became the two new specifications. The RDF Schema enables descriptions, or metadata, to merge into one vocabulary. OWL will enable successful searches for oblique or less-concrete searches. At some point, the W3C will have to address privacy and security issues, such as keeping information put up on the Web from being indexed so that anyone can look at it.
