Library Web sites offer free access to many online reference materials that would be expensive or inaccessible through other sources. The information provided is often of better quality than that found through traditional Web searches. On a typical library's Web site, this information can be found through links to articles and databases. The three main types of databases are full-text databases containing complete articles, indexed databases containing abstracts, and reference databases, similar to dictionary and encyclopedia entries. Gale/Thompson's InfoTrac Databases offer many types of resources, including literature, associations, and businesses. InfoTrac allows users to save and e-mail links. Ebscohost Research Databases enables users to search across multiple disciplines. Oxford University Press's Grove Art Online and Grove Music Online gives users access to thousands of art and music related articles. InfoUSA's Reference USA provides data on U.S. businesses, residents, and health care providers, and also has data on Canadian businesses and individuals. Mergent Online duplicates its print business analysis, but also allows users to customize reports. Learning Express Library has resources to help students of all ages prepare for tests. EBSCO's Searchasaurus and Gale/Thompson's InfoTrac Kids Edition are databases of articles oriented toward children. More patrons need to become aware and use these resources so that they will not be cut in tough budget times.
