Title: Nanomaterials 'tune in' to electronics

An updated report called 'Nanomaterials in Nanoelectronics' from Business Communications Company concentrates on two primary areas: nanoelectronics products and technologies and nanoelectronic logic products. The report indicates that the nanoelectronic memory products and technology markets will be commercialized before nanoelectronic logic products. The product that will lead in commercialization is silicon nanocrystal nonvolatile memory, which can replace flash and MRAM. Other products are carbon nanotube- enabled memories processed by conventional deposition and patterning and molecular electronic (polymer) memories with microscale, as compared with nanoscale, interconnects. Over the long range, ultrahigh density molecular solid-state memory arrays with nanowire interconnections will emerge to replace earlier volatile and nonvolatile memory technology. In nanoelectronics, a shift will occur in manufacturing strategy from to-down to bottom- up fabrication and from conventional lithographic patterning to new methods of chemical assembly and nanoimprinting techniques. The area will include new transistor materials and structures, in addition to innovative logic architectures that will displace CMOS.
