The many resources available from the Web site of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) are highlighted. The USDA policies and programs extend throughout the U.S. and beyond. Over the last 10 years, the USDA is grown its database of agricultural resources online to provide information professionals with a one of a kind source of agricultural history, current farming practices, weather data, and information on national and international production directions. Topics covered include the USDA main site; USDA executive offices; farm and foreign agricultural service; food safety and inspection service; natural resources and environment; rural development; food, nutrition, and consumer services; marketing and regulatory programs; research, education, and economics; and additional agricultural resources. Search results can be seen as tables, in graphics, or in map format from a Web browser, and agricultural statistical history goes back as far as 1970, when the initial agriculture census was taken. The site provides a robust tariff code search system, with excellent data output and formatting choices. The ARS (Agricultural Research service) Pesticide Properties Database provides access to physical property data of over 300 commercially significant fungicides, herbicides, and insecticides, but the most recent pesticides may not be covered.
